The USA
The United States of America is the fourth largest country in the world. It's bigger than the whole of Europe, but it isn't the largest country in North America. That's Canada.
There are five time zones in the USA. So, when its twelve o'clock in New York, it's only eight o'clock in Alaska. The third longest river in the world is in the USA. It's the Mississippi–Missouri River. The USA is the richest country in the world. It produces more food, iron, cars, aeroplanes, books, music and TV programmes than any other country in the world.
The USA has a population of about 300 million people. Most of them live in cities. The largest city in the USA in New York. About 8 million people live there. The second largest city is Los Angeles in California and the third largestis Chicago. There are fifty states in the Inited States. Some of the eastern states, like Rhode Island and Deleware, are quite small, but others, like Texas, California and Aleska, are bigger than a lot of countries. Alaska is the largest state. Each state has got its own government and its own capital city. The federal capital for whole of the USA is called the 'Stars and Stripes'. On the flag theres one star for each of the fifty states. The thirteen stripes are for the original thirteen states. These states formed the USA in 1776.
The first settlers in the USA came from Britain, but now the USA has people from all over he world – from Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

Spojené státy jsou čtvrtou největší zemí na světě. Jsou největší v celé Evropě, ale nejsou největší zemí v Severní Americe. To je Kanada. Existuje pět časových pásem v USA. Takže, když je dvanáct hodin v New Yorku, tak je teprve osm hodin na Aljašce. Třetí nejdelší řeka na světě je v USA. Je to řeka Mississippi-Missouri. USA je nejbohatší země na světě. Vyrábí nejvíce jídla, železa, aut, letadel, knih, hudby a televizních programů, než kterákoli jiná země na světě. V USA žije asi 300 milionů lidí. Většina z nich žije ve městech. Největší město v USA je v New Yorku. Žije tam asi 8 milionů lidí. Druhé největší město je Los Angeles v Kalifornii a třetí largestis Chicago. Je tam padesát států v Inited státech. Některé z východních států, jako Rhode Island a Deleware, jsou docela malé, ale jiní, jako Texas, Kalifornie a Aljiška, jsou větší než mnoho zemí. Aljaška je největší stát. Každý stát má vlastní vládu a vlastní hlavní město. Federální kapitál pro celé USA se nazývá "Hvězdy a pruhy". Na vlajce je tu jedna hvězdička pro každého z padesáti států. Třinácté pruhy jsou pro původních třináct států. Tyto státy tvoří USA v roce 1776. První osadníci v USA přišeli z Británie, ale nyní USA má lidi z celého světa - lidi z Evropy, Asie, Afriky a Jižní Ameriky.
